Student band In Equinox Perform at the Grand Final of Live and Unsigned UK

In June 2009 student band In Equinox performed at the grand final of ‘Live and Unsigned UK’. The band, formed by five second year BTEC Music Technology students, took part in live auditions in the regional and area finals before competing with other musicians in the grand national final which took place in a 2000 capacity venue in Portsmouth.

Music Technology lecturer Aodhán Phipps said: "In Equinox did exceptionally well to get through to the final of Live and Unsigned, the competition is a real test of an act’s musical ability, originality and performance capability. Though the band did not win on this occasion they can be very proud of their achievements, especially when you consider there were over 10,000 registrations for the competition this year."

In Equinox, Jenni Vodden (vocals), Jack Cleary (guitar), Nathan Franklin (guitar), Don Whiberley (bass) and Kurt Thick (drums), have become regulars on the live music scene with gigs throughout Essex and in London; in February 2009 year they reached the final of the Kelvedon ‘Battle of the Bands’. The band also played at Braintree Carnival in June and on the Essex Rocks Stage at the Kelvedon Free Music Festival in July. Aodhán continued: "We are excited for the future of this band; their skills and professionalism are an inspiration to others and we look forward to seeing and hearing how they progress in the future."
