Shakespearean comedy meets TV favourites ‘Benidorm’ and ‘Hollyoaks’ in an action packed student production
Final year BTEC National Diploma Performing Arts students presented Shakespeare’s romantic comedy 'A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ in June 2009. In this modern adaptation the story took place in the Athens Holiday Camp and the Woods Nightclub, where we met the lovers, the management and the bungling Red Coats.
In order to avoid a marriage to Demetrius arranged by her father, Hermia and her lover Lysander elope to The Woods pursued by her would be suitor Demetrius and Helena who is herself in love with Demetrius. Puck plays a practical joke on the lovers, which causes even more confusion. Meanwhile an incompetent band of holiday reps are preparing a play for Theseus’ wedding to Hippolyta which is put in jeopardy by one of the cast acting like an ass!
Would the lovers find each other and true love? Would the reps get their act together? Would they even see it though midsummer night’s eve while Oberon battles with Titania? Would Athens Holiday Camp ever be the same? Shakespearean comedy met TV favourites 'Benidorm’ and 'Hollyoaks’ in this action packed performance.
