School Students Build for the Future
School students from Ramsey College are gaining a valuable insight into the world of work in the Construction sector. School students attend a one day a week course at a specialist centre as part of their Key Stage 4 Curriculum. The site at Coopers Drive on the Springwood Industrial was secured last year by Braintree College who saw the need to invest in providing skills for the future and transformed the building to mirror an all weather building site.
It is here that Year 11 students put their newly gained bricklaying skills to the test and with a glimmer of hope emerging in the housing market these new skills will be in much demand when the upturn in the economy comes.
Ian Bingham tutor from Braintree College said, "We are offering school students and those leaving school this summer an excellent choice of courses and an insight into the various trades within the Construction Sector. Students also cover the importance of Health & Safety and welfare in this Sector."
Schools looking for practical courses to build into the Key Stage 4 curriculum or school leavers looking for courses in the Construction Sector can call Braintree College on 01376 321711. Alternatively the Coopers Drive facilities at Springwood Industrial Estate can be viewed at their Open Day on Saturday 13 June 2009 from 10.00am to 1.00pm.
