Former Braintree College Student is taking her Beauty Therapy Skills Further

Former Braintree College Beauty Therapy student Elaine Pole has returned to talk to current students about her career after leaving College. Elaine, 18, attended Saffron Walden County High School before coming to Braintree College in 2006 to study the BTEC National Diploma in Beauty Therapy; she completed the Level 3 qualification in June 2008. Last year Elaine joined Jeni Watson at Dermaticians Ltd, a dermal aesthetics clinic based in Cambridge offering a range of specialist treatments.

Elaine said: "At College I especially enjoyed anatomy, business and IT and these are all areas of knowledge that are invaluable in my work now. I had also gained several years of experience in the beauty therapy industry including my BTEC work placement, two years at Aveda salons in Cambridge and one year working with Jeni before we went into business in 2008."

Dermaticians Ltd specialises in non-surgical procedures including micro needling with colour pigments to create semi-permanent makeup, dry needling and medical micro-pigmentation for scar and acne reduction, skin rejuvenation, and non laser tattoo removal. Jeni explained: "With my background in nursing I could see that certain treatments would have both cosmetic and medical applications, and in particular they could benefit women and men who have experienced alopecia, radiotherapy treatment or scarring."

Jeni continued: "Elaine received excellent training at Braintree College and had experience of delivering top quality beauty salon treatments so I knew she had the ability to progress to the advanced techniques used at Dermaticians Ltd. Elaine is one of the youngest dermaticians working in this field but she manages the responsibility well and has brought a range of skills to the company that support our work in consultation and promotional education. Most importantly Elaine has empathy with the clients, she is confident and has the commitment needed to carry out longer procedures which can take up to three hours; the feedback from our customers is very good. While specialist ‘cos-medic’ treatments are big in the USA and Europe they are relatively new to Cambridge. As a pioneer of such treatments, and member of the British School of Dermagraphic Art, we set high standards in our work at Dermaticians Ltd and are required to undertake extensive training towards professional qualifications."

Elaine agreed: "In order to gain the Diploma of Excellence in cosmetic micro-pigmentation I had to complete an intensive training programme which included presenting 12 individual case studies. I have completed professional development in non-laser tattoo removal which is a specialist area I am particularly interested in and am also qualified to apply eyelash extensions. I really enjoyed my work as a makeup artist and this is definitely a step up from applying makeup. I am proud of my achievements and how far I have come since leaving Braintree College and wanted to show the Beauty Therapy students what they too could achieve. Dermaticians Ltd has registered licensed premises in Cambridge and we also hold clinics in Harley Street and throughout the UK; we have a diverse client base and delivering high quality treatments that can enhance the lives of such a wide range of people is very rewarding. Dermal aesthetics is an area that will continue to grow and we are excited about the future."
