Celebration of Student Achievement

Braintree College celebrated the outstanding achievements of 38 students at its annual Student Achievement Awards Evening on Thursday 25 June 2009. The awards covered a full range of academic and vocational excellence, as well as recognising the achievements and contribution of students in areas such as commitment to study, peer support, learning for the workplace and life-long learning. The presentations included five awards from the Pilgrim Trust for excellence in English, Maths, Humanities, Media and Science.

The Braintree College Student of the Year award for all round excellence was presented to Natalie Warman who has completed A Level studies in English, Maths and Psychology, and AS Further Maths. Natalie is going on to university to study for a BA degree in Psychology.

The event was hosted by David Mason, Interim Principal, who presented the awards and Gerry Billington, Vice Principal. The Teacher of the Year award was shared by Mathematics lecturer Ann Butt and Childcare lecturer Michelle Kennedy. Students praised their knowledge, enthusiasm for teaching and supportive approach.

Musical entertainment was provided by Holly Allen and Joe Baker, two exceptionally talented BTEC Diploma Performing Arts students who received achievement awards for Performing Arts and Vocal Excellence respectively. The vote of thanks was given by Student of the Year Natalie Warman who congratulated the award winners on their achievements. The evening was closed by Brian Cutmore.
