Over £250 Raised for BBC Children in Need
Students at Braintree College took part in a range of fundraising activities for BBC Children in Need. On Wednesday 12 November 53 CACHE Foundation and Diploma Child Care students raised over £200 with a cake and bread sale, a film screening with popcorn and sweets on sale, a doughnut eating competition, name the bear, and guess the number of sweets in the jar. Students also donated £1 to wear pyjamas in fancy dress.
Students Make Films on Location for the Eighth Successful Year
Media and Performing Arts students at Braintree College have been filming on location for the eighth successful year. Forty BTEC National Diploma students spent five days, from 13 to 17 October 2008, filming at the St Gabriel’s Conference Centre and Holy Cross House near Bungay in Suffolk.

Thirty-six first year BTEC Travel and Tourism students at Braintree College experienced the sights and sounds of Liverpool during a three-day visit to the 2008 European City of Culture in October.
Motor Vehicle Apprentices Receive Top Award from the Institute of the Motor Industry for Two Years Running
Braintree College Motor Vehicle Apprentices have received the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) Award for the Advanced Apprentice of the Year for two years running. The IMI is the professional body for training and qualifications in the Motor Industry.
Child Care Students’ Team Spirit in the Great Outdoors
Braintree College Cache Diploma and BTEC Diploma Child Care students started the first term of their college life with a visit to Danbury Outdoors education and activity centre. Thirty-six Level 3 students took part in the event during the College’s induction week and enjoyed activities including archery, tree top high ropes and an obstacle course.
Students Experience European Approaches to Child Care and Learning
Students at Braintree College are gaining first-hand experience of European approaches to child care and learning. In May this year 16 BTEC Year 2 Child Care students travelled to Reggio Emilia in Italy to explore the role of art in children's learning.
Motor Vehicle Student puts Jack Petchey Foundation Prize Money towards Training Resources for Other Students
Braintree College Motor Vehicle student Jamie Hedges has received a Jack Petchey Foundation Achievers Award and will put his £200 prize money towards valuable training resources for the Motor Vehicle Department.
Students Learn About Road Safety Awareness
Over 300 students took part in the 'Community Wheels Driving Simulator' road safety awareness event at Braintree College from Monday 15 to Friday 19 September 2008. The students saw video clips and presentations by Essex County Council Road Safety Team, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, and Essex Police on the risks of driving and the different hazards they could face as motorists.
Chid Care Students are invited to Barnardo's 2009 'Big Toddle' at Colchester Zoo
Braintree College Child Care students have been invited to work with the organisers of Barnardo's 'Big Toddle' 2009, after taking part in this year's successful event at Colchester Zoo in June.
Former Braintree College Student Dan Bentley is Gold Medallist at Beijing Paralympics
Congratulations to former Media Studies student Dan Bentley who has won a team gold medal in the Boccia event at the Beijing Paralympics. Dan was in the winning team that beat defending champions Portugal 8-4 in the final. He was selected to make his debut for Great Britain at a Paralympics after winning the British Championships this summer.
