Braintree College and Colchester Institute to Merge

Braintree College is set to merge with Colchester Institute by next summer. On Monday 21 July 2008 Braintree College's Corporation gave the green light to the proposed merger, putting an end to speculation over the College's future.


Child Care Students Enjoy Exam Success and Achieve Top Grades

CACHE Diploma Level 3 students who took an exam in June 2008 at the end of their first year have all passed with excellent grades. The overall pass rate for the year group is well above the national average. Student Laura Johnson did especially well and gained an A grade in her exam.


Travel and Tourism Students Learn About Working in the Airline Industry

On Tuesday 16 December BTEC First and National Diploma Travel and Tourism students at Braintree College received first-hand information on working in the airline industry during a series of workshops at the College led by staff from Servisair, the passenger service company based at Stansted Airport.

Braintree College has received valuable feedback from the readers of its recently launched termly newsletter. Over seventy individuals completed an evaluation questionnaire sent out with the autumn edition of ‘Braintree College Update', asking for feedback on the publication and part-time courses.


Students Get In Step with the latest Hip Hop Dance Moves

Performing Arts and Dance students at Braintree College had the opportunity to learn new hip hop dance techniques at a workshop on Tuesday 25 November taken by Bev Hockley from the Harlow based dance production company Hip Hop Pop.

Young Essex designer, Lucy Hanks dropped into Braintree College this week and delivered a workshop on the intricacies of hat making. Lucy, who has been turning heads this summer with the launch of her new hat collection, gave BTEC Art and Deign students an insight into how she designs from initial drawings through to the finished product.

Former Foundation Diploma Art and Design student Tiffany Pearce returned to Braintree College on 21 November 2008 to lead a workshop on textile design. Panathlon Challenge Starts in Essex!

The first ever Panathlon Challenge involving around 50 disabled students in five sports took place at Braintree College sports hall on Thursday 20 November 2008. Five special schools took part in total from the school sport partnerships of North West Essex, Colchester and Colne.
