Key Skills
All students aged 16 –19 are required to study the Key Skills units of Numeracy, Communication and Information Technology. Apprentices will study the Key Skills identified within the course framework.
Your GCSE results will determine the appropriate level of study. The aim is to achieve Communication and Numeracy at least to Level 2, the equivalent of a grade C in English and Maths.
Tuition will be provided in each Key Skill, either in separate classes or integrated into your main programme of study. The skills you gain will enable you to carry out your studies more effectively, for example in writing assignments and essays and presenting information and data.
These Key Skills have been identified by Higher Education Colleges and employers as essential for successful study and work. UCAS has awarded points to each level of Key Skill; a student with all three Keys Skills at Level 3 will gain 60 extra UCAS points.
