Intermediate Level (Level 2)
BTEC First Diplomas (BFDs)
These are studied over a one-year period. There are no formal external exams, but some work is externally moderated. Currently Braintree College offers BFDs in nine vocational areas. Successful completion gains a qualification equivalent to four GCSEs at grades A-C. You can then progress to an advanced level programme or into a related job.
National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs)
NVQs are work-related qualifications which require you to apply your knowledge to practical situations. At Level 2 you will usually study for one year. There are no externally set exams. The Beauty Salons are realistic working environments at College in which to develop the necessary skills for NVQ. Successful completion will enable you to progress to a Level 3 programme or into a job, where you may still be able to continue NVQ skills training.
Apprenticeships – Work Based Learning
