Advanced Level (Level 3)

A/AS Levels

With the opportunity provided by The Braintree Sixth Form Centre we will be working in partnership to deliver the widest choice of A Levels.

BTEC National Diplomas (BNDs) - 18 Units (equivalent to 3 A Levels)

These are well respected vocational qualifications studied over two years which, like A Levels, offer progression to University or relevant employment. You can choose from eleven vocational areas at Braintree College. BNDs contain a substantial programme of study, and we will discuss with you which specialist route you wish to take within this. There are no externally set exams, and coursework assessments are externally moderated.

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs)

NVQs are work related qualifications that require you to apply your knowledge to practical situations. At advanced level (Level 3) you will usually study for two years. The Beauty Salons are realistic working environments at the College in which to develop the necessary skills for NVQ. There are no externally set exams. Level 3 students will also be expected to supervise others and this is assessed.

Advanced Apprenticeships (AAs) - Work Based Learning

AAs are a work based option for young people aged from 17 to 24 years of age who have successfully completed an Apprenticeship in the relevant occupational area or are working at a supervisory level. You will gain experience at work while following a programme leading to the NVQ Level 3, a technical certificate and relevant Key Skills. An Advanced Level Apprenticeship at Level 3 would normally be completed over 18 months to two years. Trainees are employed and paid a wage by their employer. Attendance at College depends on the Apprenticeship chosen.
