Colchester Institute and Braintree College merger marks new milestone

It has been announced that the merger between Braintree College and Colchester Institute will go ahead as of 1st January 2010. The news of the merger came from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (DBIS).

Student achievements celebrated at The College at Braintree

The College at Braintree, Colchester Institute’s newest campus, celebrated the outstanding achievements of 32 students at the Student Achievement Awards ceremony on Thursday 10 June 2010. The awards covered a full range of academic and vocational excellence, as well as recognising the achievements of students in areas such as commitment to study, skills for life, sport and work experience.


College hosts Panathlon Challenge Event

On April 22nd The College at Braintree was host to this year’s Panathlon Challenge Event. Students from schools within North West Essex, all with learning difficulties and disabilities, took part in a day packed with a variety of sports which allowed them the opportunity to develop skills and take part in a competitive environment.


Students’ visit to the Hotelympia exhibition provides food for thought

Students studying Hospitality and Catering at The College at Braintree have visited Hotelympia, the UKs largest foodservice and hospitality exhibition, at the ExCeL centre in London.


Students’ breast cancer awareness fundraising day raises £66 for the Willow Foundation

Level 1 and Level 2 Childcare students raised £66 for The Willow Foundation when they took part in a breast cancer awareness day on Tuesday 16th March. Inspired by the MoonWalks, all of the students wore a decorated bra or t-shirt over their clothing.


Temp of the Month award for College Admissions Administrator

Eighteen Year 2 BTEC National Diploma Travel and Tourism students and Beauty Therapy students travelled to the Caribbean in February 2010 on a residential study visit.

Lu Xi applied for the BTEC First Diploma in Art and Design to achieve grades in the UK as the qualifications she gained in China were not transferable.


Braintree Velo 2010 Team Launch

Braintree Velo held their 2010 team launch sporting a new design racing kit. The event was hosted by The College at Braintree and held in the conference centre. The team were joined by sponsors, family and friends.
