Conrad Jacobs
Former Braintree College student Conrad Jacobs is building up his own successful business after training in carpentry and joinery. With business start up funding from the Prince’s Trust Conrad has been able to purchase essential resources for his new business.
Conrad, 24, from Braintree completed the Intermediate Construction Award in Carpentry and Joinery in 2006 and credits Braintree College for providing the support and inspiration to help him recognise his potential as a craftsman.
Conrad said: “I left school with a City and Guilds in Mathematics but I did not have a career goal or direction in life. I started labouring work and found I enjoyed being on site and learning about second fixing carpentry techniques from the tradesmen. I decided to come back to College in 2004 to gain useful practical skills myself and broaden my knowledge.”
“My tutor encouraged me to use the skills and experience I’ve gained to set up my own carpentry business. I talked to Business Link and they were very helpful in providing me with advice on writing a business plan and information on the financial and legal aspects of being self employed. “
“I am excited about the future and thanks to the business start up funding I can now plan to make my business grow.”
